– The object of this research note is a kinematic chain with two degrees of freedom and one input. Such a chain is used by the inventors to create a self-adjusting mechanism with a constant and continuous change in moment and angular velocity on the output shaft. The European Patent Office refuses to register such patents, referring to the axiom of “the moment lever”, according to which a two-movable kinematic chain with one input is indefinable due to the lack of a lever supported at some additional point. The axiom of the moment lever is consistent with the rule of mechanics: the definability of the movement of a mechanism takes place only when the number of degrees of freedom is equal to the number of input links. However, the performed force analysis of a two-movable kinematic chain made it possible to refute the axiom of the moment lever and create a theoretical basis for effective self-regulating mechanisms. The presented material allows you to significantly change the idea of the nature of mechanisms with two degrees of freedom and their capabilities and can also make a new contribution to the science of the theory of machines and mechanisms, making appropriate add-ons and changes to teaching practice.
