According to WHO, about 830 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and labor. One such situation is venous thromboembolism (VTE). Objective. To analyze the prevention strategies for VTE and existing guidelines. Articles on pregnancy and VTE risks published over the last 10 years were searched in PubMed, Wiley, Scopus, and Google scholar databases. The search included varicose veins of lower extremities, obesity, thrombophilia, history of VTE, and cesarean section. No restrictions were placed on the study design. Materials were searched by key words using MESH. Inclusion criteria: publications of A and B evidence levels. Exclusion criteria: promotional articles and information notes. The efficacy of the RCOG risk assessment model for identifying women with postpartum VTE, as well as prevention strategies such as low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) administration to reduce the risk of VTE, was established. RCOG guidelines were found to be the most acceptable questionnaire for early diagnosis of VTE in the antepartum and postpartum periods among developed countries. Such guidelines play an important role in improving the diagnosis and prevention of VTE, which helps to reduce the risk of serious complications and maternal mortality.
