The aim of this study was to explore the potential of modern digital and information technologies in the teaching of history at schools and universities. To achieve this objective, an assessment was carried out on the effectiveness of information technology tools in enhancing the assimilation of historical content. Additionally, a survey was conducted among students at pedagogical universities and history teachers to evaluate their proficiency in digital technologies. Conclusions were drawn regarding both the current benefits and future prospects of incorporating these technologies into history education. The study revealed that information and digital technologies play a significant role in the educational process, including the teaching of history. Common technological tools used in history education include presentation software, interactive historical maps and video-based maps, as well as virtual and augmented reality technologies that allow students to virtually explore historical locations or witness historical events. Other educational tools include history-themed computer games and emerging artificial intelligence applications. One of the key challenges hindering the widespread integration of these technologies is the limited technological literacy among current educators, many of whom lack the necessary skills and experience in using digital tools for history instruction. However, the training of new professionals and the high level of technological competence among today’s students and pupils provide promising prospects for the future. It is likely that the use of digital technologies will become an integral part of history education in the near future.
