Assessment of the influence of the barriers height and trees with porosity properties on the dispersion of emissions from vehicles in a residential area with various types of building developments

This paper is devoted to a comprehensive study of the distribution of nitrogen dioxide concentration in a certain street canyon in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. To validate the mathematical model and the numerical algorithm, a test problem was simulated. Based on the obtained data, the k-ω SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model was chosen for modeling. The obtained numerical results were compared with the previous calculated values. The process of spreading the pollutant for different types of buildings using different barrier heights and trees with porosity properties was defined as the main problem. Based on the study, it was found that the type of buildings has a very strong effect on the spread of pollutants. Based on a study of various options, it was found that the presence of combined barriers (tree and barrier) along the road significantly reduces the level of gas concentration (NO2) at the pedestrian zone for the detached buildings type. Whereas the presence of trees for the type of row-house building development is sufficient to reduce the level of concentration near the pedestrian zone. Thus, a favorable option for the pre-house zone is with detached buildings development, since in this option the dispersion of pollutants occurs more actively than with row-house building.
