Mechanical impact on the upper layers of the road surface with the removal of damaged sections of asphalt concrete surfaces is carried out by specialized Road-Building Machines (RBM)-(cold planer). The capabilities (technical resources) of such RBM have not been fully used. Under these circumstances, a promising area of scientific research is the development and implementation of automatic cold milling process control systems with further improvement of their main functional units and mechanisms. In the article, for the first time, Road Milling Machines (RMM) are represented by a set of interconnected controlled systems, united by the ultimate goal-the removal of asphalt concrete pavement layers corresponding to the thickness of the damaged areas with the further formation of a new pavement, which made it possible to apply the principles of automatic control to the process of milling asphalt concrete pavement by road milling machines.
