Carbon dioxide has been proved to be an effect agent to enhance oil recovery. CO2 huff and puff is a very appealing technique in tight fields where water flooding is difficult. Two horizontal wells in a tight field in Northeast China received carbon dioxide injection. One well achieved good results, but the other well failed to show positive response. Possible causes of failure are analyzed, and suggestions are made for future projects. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry and John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
