Abstract: A convenient two-stage synthesis of phosphorylated sterically hindered methylene quinones was developed. The first stage involved the reaction of phosphorous acids with a sterically hindered phenol to form the corresponding phosphonates, whose oxidation at the second stage gave the corresponding methylene quinones. The resulting stable phosphorylated sterically hindered methylene quinones were reacted with bisphosphines led to novel phosphorylated ylides. The composition and structure of the synthesized compounds were established by chemical, physical, and physicochemical methods (IR, 1H and 31P NMR, and elemental and X-ray diffraction analysis).
