Congenital birth defects (CBDs) represent a significant global public health challenge, contributing to considerable neonatal morbidity and mortality. This study investigates the epidemiology of CBDs in Central Asia, with a specific focus on Kyrgyzstan, utilizing data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021. Through an analysis of age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), this research examines temporal trends, disease specific burdens, and regional disparities. Between 1990 and 2021, Kyrgyzstan reported a 22.3% reduction in CBD-related DALYs, yet disparities with regional counterparts persist. In 1990, Kyrgyzstan recorded an age-standardized DALYs rate attributable to CBDs of 879.19 per 100,000 populations, with a 95% uncertainty interval (UI) ranging from 777.8 to 979.64. As illustrated in Figure 1, Kyrgyzstan’s age-standardized DALY rate has declined but remains higher than regional counterparts. By 2021, this rate had declined to 683.49 per 100,000 populations (95% UI: 576.3–796.23), representing a notable reduction of 22.3% over the three-decade period. The study points out significant vulnerabilities in the distribution of resources and healthcare infrastructure, thus promoting focused public health campaigns, enhanced maternal and child healthcare facilities, and calculated system investments. These results highlight in Kyrgyzstan the critical need of thorough plans to solve regional inequalities, enhance healthcare delivery, and guarantee fair access to preventive and treatment services for congenital conditions, so laying a basis for better newborn and child health outcomes. These insights can inform national health policies to prioritize maternal and child health interventions, particularly in underserved regions of Kyrgyzstan.
