Public speaking anxiety is extensive among students in developing nations, mainly when English or other foreign languages are used. Anxiety can substantially affect their academic achievement, self-esteem, and communication abilities. Among other developing countries, recent studies have suggested that students in Bangladesh and Indonesia experience considerable anxiety during public speaking. The study aims to explore if personality factors and personal resources affect their public speaking fear, which has not been addressed much in past studies, but is an important metric. Quantitative data from 441 students, 217 from Bangladesh and 224 from Indonesia, were collected through purposive sampling. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to analyze the data, affirming that personality traits and characteristics are examined using five personality traits: behavioural and affective indicators of anxiety, measured self-confidence as a speaker, and several behavioural, cognitive, and physiological elements indicated public speaking anxiety. The study aims to find that Indonesia scored higher on openness and agreeableness than Bangladesh, with no significant difference between other factors. Public sector participants scored higher on agreeableness and openness than private sector participants. The study also found a positive correlation between personality qualities and public speaking anxiety. This unique association highlights the importance of a person’s personality, confidence, personal resources, and emotional components in public speaking. The study guides teachers and academic stakeholders to assist student’s communication abilities through regular feedback, a positive attitude, relationship growth, and sensitive treatment of hesitations, by building self-esteem in students and reducing psychological barriers to speaking, educational institutions will prepare them with the aptitude to overcome their fear of public speaking, not only for academic determinations but also for future professional expansions.
