Abstract: A method for determining the etching rate of phosphate glass irradiated with heavy ions is presented. The etching rates in the track area and in the undamaged material area are quantitatively estimated. The work is aimed at studying the possibility of determining the charges of synthesized superheavy ions in phosphate glass detectors at the Factory of Superheavy Elements at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
