Tandoors are unique ceramic products, which are simple devices and have played a major role in the lives of various peoples inhabiting Asia since ancient times. They still occupy a special place in the culture of Asian peoples when preparing various dishes, and are also used in the heating system of rooms. It is safe to say that tandoors are the property and common cultural heritage of many peoples of Asia. In Central Asia and Kazakhstan, the time of the appearance of these ovens goes back to the distant past, which is confirmed by archaeological data. A general review of archaeological studies of medieval fortresses, settlements and cities of Southern Kazakhstan shows that quite extensive information about tandoors has been obtained to date. The volume of available material allows us to trace the features of these ceramic ovens. As part of this study, a review of some archaeological sites of the Lower and Middle Syr Darya (Zhankent, Sortobe 1, Karatobe, Otrar) was conducted, in which tandoors were found. The materials of the examined monuments trace the species diversity of tandoors, study their technological features, and determine their functional significance, role and place in the life of medieval society.
