This paper describes the methods of the synthesis and characterization of lead-imprinted (PbIP) and reference non-imprinted (NIP) polymers for Pb (II) metal ions removal from water. The composition and structure of the synthesized materials were elucidated by advanced physical–chemical methods. The results confirmed the successful grafting of the lead ions onto the imprinted polymer. The maximum amounts of Pb (II) metal ions adsorbed on NIP and PbIP were 1.73 and 2.05 mM/g at pH 5.5, 60 min contact time and 100 mM/g of Pb (II) metal ions concentrations. The adsorption data followed the Langmuir, Temkin and D-Rs models. The kinetic studies confirmed the pseudo-second-kinetic. The mechanism of the adsorption determined was liquid film diffusion. The results of the present research indicate the prospects of using the PbIP for removing Pb (II) metal ions from water to solve environmental issues.
