Cutting fluids play a significant role in machining technology. However, they have a negative impact on the environment. Despite dry machining is eco-friendly process, it still faces some challenges, particularly for difficult-to-cut materials. Therefore, the current research direction has steered towards green machining to empower sustainability. Thus, this paper attempts to highlight the applied green solutions in the machining field like dry, minimum quantity lubricant (MQL), cryogenic, and high-speed machining processes. The discussion and analysis of these solutions confirmed that dry machining eliminates the usage of cutting fluids making an environmental issue besides the cost of handling and management. Effective use of MQL lubricants was approved by machining under the minimum quantity of lubricant. A large reduction of friction heat and prolonged tool life is achieved under cryogenic conditions. Finally, shorter machining cycles and power consumption are contributed by high-speed machining (HSM). All these solutions support sustainability from different angles based on their various mechanism.
