This study investigates how ethnocultural concepts are reflected in the linguistic consciousness of Kazakh youth. Drawing upon the “language-nation-culture” paradigm, the research explores three culturally significant terms: körimdik (a gift given upon first encounter), qūiryq-bauyr (a ritual dish symbolizing kinship), and qoşqar müiız (a ram’s horn motif denoting strength and prosperity). A free associative experiment involving 62 participants aged 17–35 was conducted to identify mental representations linked to these concepts. Participants responded with words, phrases, and sentences, revealing core associations such as “money” for körimdik, “in-laws” for qūiryq-bauyr, and “ornament” for qoşqar müiız. Analysis showed that while traditional meanings are largely retained, some associations have shifted or diminished, suggesting generational changes in cultural perception. Family influence emerged as the primary factor shaping responses. These findings illustrate the evolving nature of ethnocultural knowledge among youth and highlight the importance of language in preserving national identity.
