This study offers a comprehensive semantic analysis of the color terms “yellow” and “brown” across the Kazakh, Altai, and Tuvan languages. By examining their cultural and linguistic contexts, the analysis reveals both shared and unique features in how these colors are perceived and symbolized. The research demonstrates that, despite differences, these languages exhibit a universalism rooted in their common Turkic heritage, particularly in their perception of natural phenomena associated with warmth and the sun. For instance, “yellow” in all three languages extends beyond its basic color meaning to encompass notions of age, wisdom, and vitality, often linked to the sun, light, and life-giving forces. Conversely, “brown” functions as a symbol of stability, reliability, and natural earthiness, frequently associated with land, trees, and autumnal landscapes. However, notable distinctions emerge in the metaphorical and emotional connotations of these terms. In Kazakh, the colors “yellow” and “brown” are rich in metaphorical meanings: “yellow” often implies aging or sickness, while “brown” represents comfort and safety, both linked to feelings of tenderness and nostalgia. However, speakers of Altai and Tuvan primarily use these words in a literal sense, highlighting colors and the environment rather than using them figuratively. The findings demonstrate that although common cultural influences shape our perception of these colors, each language conveys its distinct perspective through distinct semantic variations and metaphorical implications.
