Historical and cultural heritage in the media space: issues and study

The aim of this study is to identify and characterize the components that are necessary for the successful use of digital media space to house and ensure accessibility to objects of historical and cultural heritage. The study is based on four media projects related to Kazakhstan’s historical and cultural heritage. The research highlights the role of modern technologies in expanding the opportunities for placing historical and cultural heritage objects in media space, revealing that contemporary legislative regulation primarily focuses on the protection and use of historical and cultural heritage in the analog world. A critical aspect of evaluating the effectiveness of projects related to providing access to historical and cultural heritage through their placement in digital media space is ensuring internet freedom, the presence of censorship, and the consideration of the target audience when sharing information about these media projects on digital media platforms, including social networks. At the same time, the analysis of implemented projects demonstrates that the practical realization of cultural projects has developed alongside the advancement of digital technologies, from simple digitization of archival documents to the creation of virtual tours and exhibitions. The development of historical and cultural heritage occurs not only temporally but also spatially, sometimes leading to the simultaneous affiliation of its objects to multiple peoples. This aspect underscores the importance of international cooperation in the cultural sector. Furthermore, the successful realization of tasks related to cultural engagement with media space requires that national projects be integrated, forming a cohesive whole at both the national and regional levels.
